Year to year, more and more folks are becoming frequent and enthusiastic consignment shoppers.  Consignment stores are simply stores that sell other peoples items for them and split the money received for the items with the owner of the items.  Various consignment stores now specialize in everything from furniture to sporting goods and music equipment to clothing.  These are not the smelly old used merchandise stores or thrift stores of yesteryear.  Nowadays, these are clean, glitzy, upscale stores containing huge varieties of items that sell for a fraction of the price of similar items found at regular retail stores. Items in consignment stores come from many different sources.  Some come from individuals who are trading up, redecorating in a different theme or style, or just don’t have room for certain items anymore.  Other items come from those moving and not wanting to pay the cost of moving them.  Still others come from individuals just getting married and combining households.  Consignment stores also receive many new items from dealers, importers, and manufacturers who may be overstocked, closing out a line, selling some show samples or prototypes, or giving special deals to raise quick cash.  You’ll be amazed at some of the items you’ll find and the low prices on them. Here are a few tips to keep in mind when shopping at consignment stores: Shop often; new and different items arrive each day so the inventory is constantly changing. If you like something, grab it quickly before someone else does.  The most often heard phrase from customers in a consignment store is " I should have bought it yesterday when I first saw it".  Items sell quickly in consignment stores and are usually one-of-a-kind.  Get to know the folks who work in your favorite consignment stores and let them know about anything in particular you are looking for; most have wish lists and they will probably call you when it comes in.
